⚠ The Behmor 2000 AB Plus manual states explicitly: "The Behmor Roaster is not intended to roast coffee to levels known as Vienna, French, or Italian." Oily beans accumulate in the chaff tray as a fire risk. For Full City+, reduce batch to 336 g.

Bean-specific notes

  • Central → Auto P1. SHB EP, Catuai + Caturra, ~1,100–1,200 m.
  • Vendor (Captain’s Coffee): dark chocolate, caramel, peach, cashew butter.
  • Vendor range City+ to Vienna; targeting Full City+ (Medium-dark) = Behmor safe maximum (manual prohibits past 10 sec into 2C).
  • Drop trigger: first 1–3 snaps of 2C → Cool within 10 sec.
  • 009 came in light (9.7% loss, dropped at 12:10 on cocoa smell before 2C started). Same plan, but this time wait for the actual 2C snaps — do not drop on smell alone.
  • C-button rule unchanged: only press C at FC if remaining clock < 2:30; otherwise let Auto P1 ride and use C near end of clock to extend.

Today's playbook

Same bean, same weight, same target as 009. Difference: hold past cocoa smell and wait for the first sharp 2C snaps before dropping.

SETUP

  1. Chaff tray empty. 227 g green in drum.
  2. Preheat: press ½ lb + any P + START, drum OUT, run 1:30, press OFF.
  3. Drum in. Chaff tray in. Door closed.

ROAST

  1. Press ½ lb + P1 + START. Start phone timer.
  2. ~7 min on: listen for FC.
  3. 75% shutoff at 9:00 (display blinks un:30): press C to continue.
  4. At FC: mark time, then check the remaining clock.
    • Clock ≥ 2:30 remaining: do NOT press C. Let Auto P1 run.
    • Clock < 2:30 remaining: press C to extend.
  5. Stay on Auto P1 (no P3, no D). Listen for 2C.
  6. Smell will shift bread → toast → caramel → cocoa → resinous. Cocoa is NOT the drop cue — keep going.
  7. Clock running low and no 2C yet: press C again to extend. You want the snaps.
  8. First 1–3 snaps of 2C → press Cool within 10 sec.

IF SOMETHING’S WRONG

  • Bluish/acrid smoke → press Cool now.
  • Rolling 2C (continuous snaps) → already past the safety line → Cool immediately.
  • Resinous/oily smell with no snaps yet → you’re at the safety line → Cool now, don’t wait.

AFTER

  1. Cool cycle ~10 min. Door open ~1:30 into cool if you want faster airflow.
  2. Weigh roasted. Target loss 16–18%, DTR 19–23%.
  3. Wait 1 hour before any next roast.

DROP CUES (read once before starting)

  • Smell shift through the roast: bread → toast → caramel → cocoa → resinous (= past the safety line).
  • FC sound: wet popcorn pops. 2C sound: sharper, drier, faster snaps.
  • For Full City+, drop on the first sharp distinct snap that’s not a popcorn pop after FC has wound down. Cocoa smell alone is too early.
