Behmor 2000 AB Plus — reference

Operational reference for the Behmor 2000 AB Plus pulled from the official knowledge base — startup sequence, profiles, weight settings, safety features, and temperature readings.

Pulled from the Behmor knowledge base so it’s available on-hand during a roast. Cross-checked against the official 2000AB 120V manual (V28, Nov 2023) .

Profiles: P1–P5 are power levels, not programmes

This is the most important thing to understand about the Behmor. P1–P5 set the heating element power, not an automated roast curve.

ProfilePowerUseOK after FC?
P10%Rotation with no heat. Use to stall or cool slowly without hitting C.
P225%Light drying phase or very slow finishing.
P350%Recommended post-FC setting. Drop to P3 at first crack and let exothermic momentum finish the roast.
P475%Pre-FC drying and Maillard phase only.
⚠ Not recommended after first crack.
P5100%Early drying phase only. Drop to P3 at FC.
⚠ Not recommended after first crack — risks scorching beans and sensor damage.

The recommended roast approach (per official docs): Start on the automatic program (weight setting drives the default program time). At first crack, press P3 to drop to 50% power and let the beans’ own exothermic momentum carry development. Use C and D buttons to manage the final phase.

P4 and P5 should only be used in the early (drying/Maillard) phase, not during or after first crack.

Weight settings — default program times

The weight button only sets the program duration. Heat is controlled by the profile (P1–P5).

Actual chargeWeight buttonProgram time75% shutoff atWhy
¼ lb (≈113 g)¼ lb8:306:22 elapsedOfficial beginner starting point. Manual says never start above ¼ lb until familiar with the machine.
½ lb (≈227 g)½ lb12:009:00 elapsedStandard batch. 75% shutoff at 9 min elapsed — may coincide with first crack. Stay close.
1 lb (≈454 g)1 lb18:0013:30 elapsedFull batch. More thermal momentum — harder to stop development at the right moment.

Match the weight button to your actual charge. The 75% safety shutoff fires at 75% of the program time selected.

Preheat sequence

  1. Weigh green beans into the drum. Keep the drum out of the machine.
  2. Select your weight setting and profile. Press START. Machine begins warming with no drum.
  3. Let run 1 minute 30 seconds. For ½ lb (12:00 program), the timer will read 10:30 remaining.
  4. Open the door and insert the loaded drum.
  5. The program continues from where it left off.

For back-to-back roasts, the chamber is already warm — skip the preheat and account for earlier FC on subsequent batches.

75% auto-safety shutoff (Err 7)

At 75% through the program, the display blinks and counts down from 0:30. Press START to continue. If you miss it, the machine enters cool mode and shows Err 7. This applies in both automatic and manual modes.

The exact “75% at” time is shown in the weight-settings table above. On a ½ lb batch it lands at 9:00 elapsed — potentially right in the middle of first crack — so stay near the machine.

A/B temperature buttons

  • A button: exhaust channel temperature (available once the exhaust fan activates mid-roast)
  • B button: chamber wall temperature

Neither reading is bean temperature. Use them as relative indicators of roast progress, not absolute targets.

Drum speed — D button

The D button adjusts drum rotation speed. Higher speed = more even tumbling, slightly lower peak surface temp. Lower speed = more surface contact heat. Adjust after FC to fine-tune development if needed.

C button (cool)

Pressing C before the program ends starts the cooling cycle immediately. Use this as your drop trigger — hit C at the moment you want to stop development.

Beginner guidance (from official docs)

  • Start with ¼ lb batches on P1 for your first four roasts to learn the machine.
  • Do not start above ¼ lb until you’re comfortable with timing and the shutoff.
  • “The Behmor Roaster is not a set and walk away device — always stay by the roaster when it is in use.”
